    Blandford extra care PFI

    The three storey building offers living facilities for people with social needs. The building was constructed with a tiled trussed timber roof, precast concrete floors at all levels, generally supported on load bearing masonry walls.

    Due to the ground floor layout within the communal areas, it was necessary to introduce a steel frame structure to support the transfer slab above at the first floor level. Other structural challenges included constructing the buildings adjacent to a steep railway embankment as well as accommodating the drainage within a congested foundation layout.

    A multi storey steel framed medical building has been created on the site of an old medical records building in Boscombe, Bournemouth.

    This new drop in centre is to be accessible to the public 24 hours a day and has within it a small operating room.

    The structure has been designed so that another storey can be built on top of the existing structure without major redesign of the building.

    Completed in Spring 2008, this hospital cares for patients requiring neuro rehabilitation and includes a hydrotherapy pool with specialist lifting equipment. The structure is timber framed, with exposed timber laminated beams over the pool area.

    The sloping site necessitated a retaining wall and bridge at the rear of the building.

    The £3.5m redevelopment of an existing medical care home required the project to be phased to keep the existing care home in use at all time.

    Constructed over a two year period, phase 1 required partial demolition of the existing buildings with a two storey new build wing constructed to be occupied prior to phase 2 commencing. Phase 2 involved demolition of the original Victorian building and replacing it with a three storey, plus basement building. The final construction forming a square building with a central open garden area.

    Poole Hospital Breast Screening Unit

    Client:Poole Hospital NHS Trust

    This development forms an extension to the Ladybird Unit providing a breast screening facility.

    The extension was formed using a steel frame, independent of the existing building.

    The foundations had to be carefully detailed to avoid the myriad of existing services that run through the area.

    The new stair tower has been designed to serve a future 3rd level.

    A three storey residential care home for the elderly, with a build cost of £1.8M.

    The structure consists of load bearing masonry, precast concrete floors and a steel framed cut roof construction forming the 'room-in-the-roof' style top floor. The foundations are traditional mass concrete strip foundations.

    Client: Bournemouth Housing Society for the Elderly

    This 40 unit four storey sheltered housing scheme was completed in early 2006 by Rok Construction. The client was so pleased with the end result that they immediately decided to build another block on the same site.

    The structure consists of a cut timber roof, precast wide slab floors and load bearing masonry The Communal area at ground floor required steel beams and columns supporting the structure above.
