Internal alterations.
The requirement for existing internal partitions to be removed as part of the refurbishment of the existing refectory and dining area created an interesting structural brief.
Assessment and design checks of the existing featured roof trusses and their load path enable GAP Ltd to assess the effect on the retained support structure, if the existing internal partitions were removed. A number of possible options were prepared for the architect to consider before he finalized his revised internal layout.

Poole High School (Phase 3)
Location: Poole
Client: Borough of Poole – Poole High School
Design of the new arts block, extension to the science block and link walkway between the original school and the science block extension.
The art block was a steel framed construction with masonry cladding. A mezzanine floor over part of the structure allows students to review their art work from a different angle and perspective with the use of northern lights.
The science block extension was a reinforced masonry load bearing structure supporting a precast concrete first floor and traditional timber roof trusses. The foundations were modified to bridge costly sewer and mains services.
A steel framed lattice structure was used as a link bridge between the existing and new buildings hence a review of the existing structure was undertaken to enable this proposal to be constructed.

Poole Learning Center
Location: Poole
Client: Borough of Poole – Property Services
A 3 storey school building set on a terraced site. The building is to be steel framed with precast concrete wide span floor systems.
The Structural brief includes initial investigation works on the site to obtain information on contamination, existing retaining walls and ascertain the location of the mains sewers, attending feasibility workshops, preparation of Tender Drawings and full design and detailing for construction purposes. Site inspections during construction are also required.
The Civils brief is to design all new below ground drainage and the connections to the existing mains sewer.
The Client requires the building to be constructed to the BREEAM standard of Very Good Quality.

Design of foundations and ground slab, for steel-framed extension to Tipping Hall.

Viking Longhouse
Location: Cranborne
Client: Dorset County Council
The Viking Longhouse is a 24m long, bow-sided, chestnut shingle-roof structure, based on evidence from Danish royal garrisons. Its construction has been carried out by school children and volunteers using authentic methods and materials.
It is proposed that this building, unlike other existing buildings on the site, will offer accommodation for school parties and other visitors. This unique new residential facility is an inspirational resource for children of all ages, and will be an invaluable learning experience for generations to come.
